Forever 21 is going bankrupt. So much for THAT name, phony.

As Forever 21 metaphorically drags on towards the wood chipper, head first on a conveyor belt, the only thing I can think of is, who’s next? The retailocolypse has claimed plenty, burned some, and left very few, unscathed.

Forever 21 recently has been meeting with advisers to help “restructure its debt” which is *SPOILER ALERT* usually bad. Forever 21 was one of the first “fast fashion” brands busting out new lines pretty much every month while historic fashion companies release… like what, 2 times a year or some shit? And although Forever 21 did help pioneer a new trend, it looks like that was all they were able to do. It’s like one person in the neighborhood that has to move, you’re sorry to see them go, and you’re glad it wasn’t you. Companies, and especially retail, have been ducking, dodging, and diving not only conglomerates but tech as well. Look at businesses like Rent The Runway. They not only found a niche but made it easier for purchases to come through. I’m not saying Forever 21 and Rent The Runway are direct comparisons, but it’s an acquisition or a pivot that could possibly have saved Forever 21, so I wouldn’t have to write this load of horseshit. Thus, c’est la vie, it might have just been too little too late.

Forever 21 calling for possible bankruptcy does pose the question of, what next? And who next? The disastrous last decade that retail has gone through is not over yet. I am 100% positive we’ll watch some name-brands go down as well in just a few years. So many have fallen already, and online seems to be the move. I personally still choose to shop in the store, my dumb-ass never knows what to buy or where shit is, so I rely on the generosity and customer-service-oriented staff members to point out where the Pedialyte is so I can get my sweaty hungover ass out of Safeway at 10 am on a Tuesday.

I digress, to put it plainly, I would say Forever 21 will be dead in 2 years or at least have cut back so dramatically that they can be sold. Either way it is not first or last victim of the rise of online shopping. If anything else, this should be a sign to other, even more historic retailers, that judgement day spares no business. At one point they will have to answer to the consumer, and if they can’t give our needy asses what we want, then by example most of us will shop elsewhere. It’s a cruel world baby, I just live in it.

Well. Until next time.

PS- I’ve been in Forever 21 like 3 times maybe, every-time with my ex girlfriend….. Goddammit Sarah take me back!
